Kwania District Council has today Wednesday 7th, June 2023 passed a budget of 26.9 b for the 2023/24 FY. 

The Council which was Chaired by Hon. Christopher Agum, the District Speaker passed a budget with amendments, the resource envelope worth 26,987,871,000/= 

The theme of 2023/2024 budget is "Full Monetization of Uganda's Economy through Commercial Agriculture, Industrialization, Expanding and Broadening Services,

Digital Transformation and Market Access" 

The summary in share of the budget by  departments is as follows with Education taking the lion share followed by Health and Administration 

1.Administration 2,056,370,000/= 7.6% 

2. Finance 451,489,000/= 1.67% 

3. Statutory Bodies 580,535,000/= 2.15% 

4. Internal Audit 58,913,000/= 0.2% 

5. Planning 235,742,000/= 0.87% 

6. Production and Marketing 731,800,000/= 2.7% 

7. Natural Resources 484,598,000/= 1.8% 

8. Trade Industry & Local Development  82,657,000/= 0.3% 

9. Health 5,815,327,000/= 21.6% 

10. Education 13,536,098,000/= 50.3% 

11. Roads & Engineering 1,938,774,000/= 7.2% 

12. Water 749,496,000/= 2.7% 

13. Community Based Services 266,158,000/= 1% 

The Sources of Funding for the above budget are as follows 

1. Locally Raised Revenue  516,876,000/= 

2a. Discretionary Government Transfers. 4,111,551,000/= 

2b. Conditional Government Transfers. 21,018,761,000/= 

2c. Other Government Transfers. 492,636,000/= 

3. External Financing 848,047,000/= 

The house also approved a supplementary budget worth 1,876,863,588 (One Billion Eight Hundred Seventy Six Million Eight Hundred Sixty Three Thousand Five Hundred Eighty Eight shillings only) in a Motion tabled by the Leader of Government Business. This funding came from the Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development to support payment of wages as categorized below; 

1. Town/ Urban UCG wage  158,260,034 /= 

2. Agriculture Extension Wage 221,400,462 /= 

3. Secondary Education Wage 421,484,346 /= 

4. Pension 230,588,643/= 

5. Gratuity 845,130,103/= 

The District Chairperson thanked the Council and Technical Staff for their efforts in the budgeting processes upto it's approval  today.
